To dry the flux I've added gentle heat. It bubbles too much if too much heat is added and this could easily throw the solder off the joint. After the flux is dry it's helps to glue the solder strip onto the joint.
I place the piece between the soldering bricks (as shown) and continue with moderate heat but making sure the whole piece is heated up. Once the flux melts then more intense heat is used and targeting the joint.
